About the Competition
The IDC competition is an initiative that invites students to reflect, discuss and raise their own philosophical question on a science topic that interests them.
When you find yourselves asking such questions, then you can be certain that you have entered the philosopher’s zone!
The competition seeks to encourage fresh methodological thinking on the history and philosophy of science as an integrated discipline and helps to transform learning into an exciting challenge for all students.
The purpose of competition is to make students feel and understand that it was philosophers’ personal life, socio-political conditions, problems of the world, their zeal to find solutions which led to many scientific breakthroughs and discoveries.
The students are asked to create complex projects on historical development of any Facts, Concepts, Laws, Principles and Theories in science that they find important or fascinating. This exploration will provide learners better understanding of any scientific journey.
Purpose
The objective of the competition are to:
- promote philosophical education in Science and increase the interest of school pupils in integrating philosophy of science with other disciplines.
- encourage our learners understanding the details of how philosophers and scientists developed the ideas and processed them into theories leading to various discoveries and inventions;
- contribute to the development of critical, inquisitive and creative thinking;
- promote philosophical reflection on science, art, and social life;
- encourage intellectual exchanges among children to explore the works of different philosophers of science;

Team Size | 1-3
All students have to enroll individually even if they are in a team.
Timeline
20th July 2024 | Registration Closes
10th October 2024 | Final Submission Deadline
31st October 2024 | Result Declaration
Criteria
There are five criteria of evaluation.
- Originality
- Relevance to the topic
- Philosophical understanding of the topic
- Communication and Presentation
- Coherence
Evaluation
It will be in three stages:
- Each submission will be evaluated on a scale of 10. Those above score of 7.0 will make it to the next level.
- Jury then individually review those submissions which are according to the criteria below:
- Those getting score 7.0 or above in previous stage
- Those having a difference in marking by two jury members of more than 3.0 point
- Those finally making a new average of 7.0 or above are recommended by jury to the steering board . Each person in this board will review each final submission individually. The steering board then decides the winners.
Recognition and Awards
The best entries will be awarded with a cash prize and a Certificate of Excellence.
